Our Jesuit Community

Wheeling Jesuit University is one of 28 Jesuit institutions of higher education in the country. The major apostolate of the Jesuit Community is Wheeling Jesuit University. The Jesuits at Wheeling Jesuit University serve as faculty, staff and administrators. They also provide pastoral and sacramental ministry for parishes and religious houses in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, Steubenville, and Pittsburgh.

The Society of Jesus

The Society of Jesus, one of the largest religious order of men in the Catholic Church was founded in 1540 by St. Ignatius Loyola, a Basque nobleman and soldier, who founded God in all things. Today, more than 25,000 Jesuit serve the Church in 112 nations on six continents.

The Journey to a Great Life

The Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus video, "The Journey to a Great Life," illustrates the core of the Jesuit vocation through the words and experience of our men in formation for the priesthood. In this video, Jesuits talk about how they were called to religious life and how they live out their vocation and the mission of the Jesuits.
